The Moonraker Design Co Sprinter Van Ceiling Structural Kit is a complete framing and support kit for your van.  Not only does it significantly increase the structural integrity of your camper van conversion, but it also lays the foundation and make it's easier to build on as well.

Our Kit Consists of 4 main components all of which can be ordered separately or together:

  • The wall a ceiling transition structures
    • Designed to keep ceiling and wall panels tight & flat at this normally unsupported junction.
  • The Roof Rib Center Structures
    • Set of 5x for Sprinter 144WB and 7x for 170WB
    • They push attachment points out to the side of the ribs for a more consistent and controlled bolt pattern (1.25" spacing 31.75mm), offer better seaming strategies and also offer protected wire chases along the sides of the roof ribs.
  • The Upper Cabinet Aluminum Machined Ceiling Brackets ONLY (CNC machined from solid 7075 Aluminum).  Sold as each or in package qty's with mounting hardware included.
    • Please note that you will have to order the extruded aluminum separately.  We could stock this but we would have to charge you way more than retail for handling & logistics.  So to save you money we made a cut sheet for each sprinter van bay at the time of order so you can order directly form the manufacturer.  We can also send you this beforehand if it's helpful for panning.
    • We ended up using 17x of these for our build.  That's entirely down the drivers side and to the slider door on the passengers side for a Sprinter 144.
    • Important Note: the extrusions in the very last back bay and the very front bay are designed to terminate on our Front & Rear angle support brackets at the headliner roof rib in the front of the van and the D-Pillar at the rear of the van.  These machined brackets will not work on those surfaces as the angles are different and if you use something other than our front and rear transitions you'll need to figure out how to terminate them there yourself.
  • The front and rear support angle brackets (Rib Transition Supports)
    • These solve one of the most complicated parts of a sprinter van roof panel build: how to terminate at the D-pillar and the headliner rib.

The Sprinter 144 Full Kit & Caboodle comes with all the pieces listed above with quantity 17x of the Upper Cabinet Aluminum Machined Ceiling Brackets which covers the entire drivers sides as well as to the sliding door on the passengers side.  If you need more or less of these brackets in the kit please reach out.

This kit not only gives you super strong, structural anchor points, but also allows you to use thinner paneling with reduced risk to warping over the transitions from roof rib to roof rib.

You can buy the entire kit or the individual parts if that works better for your build.  Please be sure to read the detailed information below before ordering!

More information coming soon... right now only the front & rear transition pieces are for sale & these will work for both 144 & 170WB vans.

**Compatibility: The kits work ONLY for 2014+ Sprinter (NCV3 & VS30) Vans right now.

Key Features

Most van builds — DIY and commercial alike — rely on wood firing strips screwed into the roof ribs with self-tappers or wood screws. It works, until it doesn't. Wood rots, fasteners strip, and the next time you need to access something behind a panel you're dealing with single-use hardware that was never meant to come out twice.

Our ceiling kit was designed from the ground up to replace all of that. It's a fully modular system that installs directly to your van's ceiling structure, providing robust, engineered mounting points for ceiling panels, headliners, and overhead cabinets — all at a lower profile than traditional firing strips so you're not eating into your headroom. Every component is secured with machine screws, which means clean installation, real torque specs, and a ceiling you can actually take apart and put back together without destroying anything. Whether you're running a simple headliner or building out a full overhead cabinet system, this kit gives you the structural foundation to do it right — and the flexibility to change your mind later.

Installation Information

Some Details on the Front & Rear Transition Pieces (including included hardware):

  • 13 - M5 Rivnuts & HW to mount the front piece. The slots are big enough vertically and laterally so you can work the curve how you like.  We went with M5 in the front because the factory holes you'll drill out are smaller, and we figure it's always best to remove as little of material as possible.
  • 10 - M6 Rivnuts & HW to mount the rear piece. For the rear it's recommend taking a straight edge across the closest roof rib and mark with a sharpie in quite a few places to get the curve you need to match since there's nothing really to follow naturally back here.
  • If you are using GoCode Trim pieces in the front you will need to cut down the support a bit. A hacksaw is the preferred way to do this. These brackets work with the Terrawagen front trims (our preference & what they were designed for) no problem.
  • If you haven't buried the factory wiring in the wall, you'll need to notch the rear support to allow the wire to pass through. You'll also need to make modifications here if you are planning on using GoCode Trims.

Some Details on the Center Rib Supports:

  • The standard design places the extrusions for mounting the cabinets at 250mm on center away from the wall. Note: this is not compatible with where Adventure Wagon places them.
  • To attach the panels to the ceiling we've added a bunch of holes 7.6mm (0.300") that are M5 rivnut (these are not included) ready and spaced 1.25" (31.75mm apart). You can check the specs for the ones we use here.
